티타늄 소재는 빌더가 얼마나 공을 들이느냐에 따라 완성도가 달라집니다. 그리고 이번 프레임은, 그 차이를 아주 선명하게 보여주는 결과물이었습니다.
보통의 프레임 빌더는 한번 완성된 형태를 쉽게 바꾸지 않습니다. 익숙한 설계를 반복할수록 제작 과정은 안정되고, 고객의 주문도 수월하게 받을 수 있으니까요. 하지만 이퀼리브리엄의 프레임은 하나당 10-12개월의 리드타임이 소요됩니다. 매 프레임마다 그 시점에서 가장 나은 기술과 설계를 고민하고 적용하기 때문입니다. 그것이 이퀼리브리엄이 다른 빌더와 구별되는 지점이기도 합니다.
이번 Brutalist Adventure도 그 연장선에 있습니다. 저희가 요청한 형태가 아니었습니다. 이퀼리브리엄 측에서 먼저 제안해온 방향이었습니다. 그래블 타이어의 트렌드가 점점 더 굵어지고 있는 흐름을 읽었고, 기존의 브루탈리스트보다 이 형태가 더 낫다는 판단이 있었습니다. 빌더 스스로가 더 나은 결과물을 향해 먼저 움직인 것입니다.
그 결과가 우리 손에 도착했을 때, 저희는 미캐닉으로서 좀처럼 느끼기 힘든 희열을 경험했습니다. 모든 파츠가 단 하나의 오차 없이 제자리를 찾아가는 순간, 빌더가 혼을 담은 프레임은, 결국 그것을 다루는 사람에게도 고스란히 전해집니다.

Most framebuilders don’t reinvent what’s already working. Repeating a proven design keeps the process efficient and the order books manageable. But every Equilibrium frame carries a 10 to 12 month lead time — because each one is approached as a fresh problem, with the best available thinking and techniques applied at that moment in time.
This Brutalist Adventure is no exception. It was Equilibrium’s initiative — driven by where gravel is heading, and a belief that this form of the Brutalist was simply better than what came before.
When the frame arrived, we experienced something rare from a mechanic’s perspective. Every part found its place without a single point of resistance. A frame built with that kind of intention has a way of making itself known — not just to the eye, but to the hands.
